Anchor Project - Flint Biogas
The BioWorks anchor facility is located in Flint, Michigan. The largest municipal digester in the American Midwest processes a variety of industrial and municipal sludges using high solids reactors and a hydrolysis process.
The plant is open 365 days per year and processes over 3000 dry tons of material annually. Biogas generated from the process is used to fuel combined heat and power units which generate renewable energy.

Genesee County, Michigan
BioWorks Energy was retained by the Genesee County Drain Comissioner to evaluate their existing anaerobic digesters and provide recommendations to optimize the overall digestion process. The evaluation included analysis of hydraulic and sludge retention times, process heat requirements, and gas handling and reuse. Recommendations resulted in cost savings to treatment facility. Further study and evaluation is pending, but is expected to lead to further operational cost reduction.
Commonwealth Resource Management Corp.
BioWorks Energy provided technical expertise for the start-up of a digester in Crapo Hill, Maryland. We created a digester loading plan using various high strength wastes that were locally available. Start-up of the system progressed without delay and resulted in higher-than-expected gas production.
City of Ann Arbor
BioWorks Energy was hired to assist Quantlux LLC (Ann Arbor, MI) to determine the feasibility of implementing a anaerobic digester for the City of Ann Arbor, Michigan. The evaluation included development of process flow, CAPEX and OPEX estimates, and future oppurtunities with waste organics from the region. BioWorks was again retained by Fishbeck Thompson, Carr, and Huber (Grand Rapids, MI) to assist on the 2nd phase of the feasibility study completed in 2017.
Buckeye Valley School District
BioWorks Energy was contracted to design and build a onsite waste water system for the Buckeye Valley School District’s newest elementary school. BioWorks evaluated a variety of alternatives for the district and its construction manager, balancing land use and overall capital costs.
Green Meadows Dairy - Elsie, Michigan
BioWorks Energy was hired to assist the dairy’s operations personnel to bring the dormant digester back to full operation. BioWorks efforts included training of operational staff, evaluation and recommendations on equipment repair and replacement, and development of digester feed and wasting program. BioWorks efforts resulted in increased biogas production, lower operating costs, and equipment improvements.
